She also studied at the Royal Ballet of London, Boston Ballet, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, and Alonzo King’s Lines Ballet. She has danced professionally with San Francisco Ballet (corps de ballet), Ballet Sibiu of Transylvania (corps and soloist), and was a guest of the National Ballet of Mongolia. Madeleine joined Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre in 2004. Betsy Boxberger trained under Victoria Lyras at the Indianapolis School of Ballet. She graduated from Duke University with a double Bachelor of Arts in Dance and Environmental Policy. Betsy has performed as a guest artist with Dance Kaleidoscope and the Indianapolis School of Ballet, and as a company member with Ballet Quad Cities. Featured roles include the lead soloist in Gerald Arpino’s Reflections, Second Violin in Concerto Barocco, the lead girl in Valse Fantasie, Raymonda in Raymonda, and George Balanchine’s Sugar Plum in The Nutcracker. She was recently honored with the Robert D. Beckmann, Jr. Emerging Artist Fellowship from the Arts Council of Indianapolis. Betsy joined José Mateo Ballet Theatre in 2016. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii and raised in Tucson, Arizona, Bo Brinton began studying dance at the age of 17 at Arizona Ballet Theatre. Under the direction of Cecily Bressel, former member of the Boston Ballet, and Norman Walker, former artistic director of Jacob’s Pillow, Bo was able to build a strong technical foundation in both ballet and modern dance. After two years of intensive training, he was accepted into the University of Arizona’s dance program. During his time at the university, he was lucky enough to learn a variety of works choreographed by Elizabeth George, James Clouser, and George Balanchine. Bo also had the privilege of attending summer programs at Spectrum Dance Theatre, American Ballet Theatre and Alonzo King LINES ballet on scholarship. A diverse and enriching education enabled him to refine his skills as both a classical and contemporary artist. Upon graduating from the University of Arizona in 2016, with a BFA in dance, Bo accepted a position with Artifact Dance Project in Tucson, Arizona. Bo is thrilled to be joining Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre for the 2017/2018 season. Brittany was born and raised in Jamestown, NY. She received her early dance training with Monika Alch at the Chautauqua Regional Youth Ballet, as well as attending summer programs at the New York State Summer School of the Arts, BalletMet Columbus, Boston Ballet, and Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre. She went on to continue her training at the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in dance. While at Purchase, she danced in George Balanchineʼs Serenade, Jessica Langʼs Prayers, The Nutcracker, and an original solo work, Adrift, choreographed by Emery LeCrone. Brittany joined Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre as an apprentice in 2013, and was promoted to a full company member in 2014. Patricia was born in Columbus, OH and raised in Concord, MA. She is a graduate of Josè Mateo Ballet Theatre’s Young Dancers Program, where she danced with their pre-professional performance group, YouthWorks. She has also trained with Boston Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, and the Nutmeg Conservatory. Patricia joined Josè Mateo Ballet Theatre as an apprentice in 2010 and became a full company member in 2011. She is also a member of the teaching faculty at Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre and is pursuing a degree in psychology from the Harvard University Extension School. Angie DeWolf was born and raised in Greenville, Pennsylvania. She credits her dance training to Sharon Filone at Lake Erie Ballet (Erie, PA), Barbara Banasikowski Smith at Greater Lansing Ballet and the Michigan State University Repertory Dance Company. Angie is a graduate of Michigan State University where she received her Pre-Med degree and danced professionally with the Greater Lansing Ballet Company. In addition, Angie was involved in a cultural exchange with The Vaganova Ballet of St. Petersburg, Russia and is a proud faculty member at José Mateo Ballet Theatre’s school. Angie joined José Mateo Ballet Theatre in 2004. She has held featured roles, most notably in Streams, Timeless Attractions, Back to Bach, Escape, Presage, Sound Secrets, Risk of Repetition and danced as the Snow Queen and the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker. Junichi Fukuda holds a BFA in Dance from the Boston Conservatory and has been a member of Ballet Tech/NY, Oakland Ballet, Smuin Ballet/SF, Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, the New York Baroque Dance Company, Nejla Yatkin’s NY2 Dance, Buglisi Dance Theatre and Peridance Contemporary Dance Company where he was featured in numerous principal roles. Back in New England, Junichi became a member of Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre while he maintains his choreographic journey. Junichi was the recipient of the 2012 S&R Washington Award and the Dance Place’s 2012 New Releases Choreographer Commission. His choreography has been presented at 18MASDANZA in Spain, Dance St. Louis’ The Spring to Dance Festival, DanceNow at Joe’s Pub Festival, Boston Contemporary Dance Festival and Bates Dance Festival. The Washington Post says, “Fukuda knew exactly what he was doing here: creating a work of easeful harmony…bringing to mind freedom and flight…The real credit was due to Fukuda’s modest, tasteful proposal. ” Junichi formed his company “Fukudance” as a vehicle to continue his artistic journey from dancer to choreographer and director. Junichi has been awarded Emerging Choreographer residency from Bates Dance Festival, CATALYSTS Artist residency from the Dance Complex, and Rehearsal and Retreat Fellowship from Boston Dance Alliance as well as receiving grants from Somerville Arts Council, New England Foundation for the Arts, Boston Cultural Council, and Fidelity Charitable Foundation. He currently co-produces an ongoing performance event “the Second Eye” with 3S Artspace (). His future choreographic engagement includes a new work at The Boston Conservatory at Berklee, collaboration with Atlantic Guitar Quartet, and various events at the Dance Complex and 3S Artspace. She received her training from Jeanette Makaroff at the Markaroff Youth Ballet. She continued her training at The Boston Conservatory where she received her BFA in dance. At the conservatory she performed a lead role in Gerald Arpino’s ballet “Light Rain” along with works by Paul Taylor, Jose Limon, Larry Kegwin, and many others. Lauren joined José Mateo Ballet Theatre as an apprentice in 2013 and was promoted to the company in 2014. Jean (George) began his dance training as a scholarship student at the Academie de Danse Regine Mont-Rosier Trouillot in Haiti in 2002, where he studied ballet, jazz, contemporary and modern dance. In 2005, he joined the Jean Rene Delsoin Company Dance Project in Haiti. In 2008, he studied Arte Dramatico and Dance Contemporary at the Escuela Nacional de Danza de Bellas Artes in the Dominican Republic. George studied at Études de Ballet & Co. in 2009, and he passed his Royal Academy of Dance Intermediate Exam with Distinction. George has danced professionally with Ballethenic Dance Company in East Point, Georgia; Ballet Roto in the Dominican Republic; and Tony Williams Dance Company’s Outside the Box, in Boston. In 2009 he participated in José Mateo Ballet Theatre’s Summer Intensive & Pre-Professionals Program where he was invited to join the company as an apprentice upon completion. In 2010, George became a full company member and danced with JMBT through 2015. From 2015-2017, George moved his focus from from professional dancing to teaching. He has been a dance instructor and Director of the Modern Dance Program at Etudes de Ballet, Naples FL, Center Stage Dance Studio in Melrose MA and was the head dance instructor at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Naples FL, where he won first place in the competition for the Florida Regional. Presently, George is teaching at José Mateo Ballet Theatre, BalletRox and spontaneous Celebrations, a program focusing on integrating dance in the Boston Public Schools. In November 2017, George rejoined José Mateo Ballet Theatre as a member of the professional company. Janelle has danced professionally with the Hartford Ballet, New Jersey Ballet and BalletRox, Boston. In addition, Janelle has performed with Legends in Concert, Celebrity Cruises, Anna Myer, David Parker and Island Moving Company. Janelle has also held small roles in several major movie productions, including 27 Dresses (20th Century Fox, 2008) and What’s your Number (Contrafilms, 2011). Janelle has recently served as choreographer and casting director of two flash mob performances for Media Direct Productions, in Boston and Las Vegas. Janelle has worked as company manager for Balletrox and currently coordinates the BalletRox dance programs in Boston Public Schools. She also teaches dance at Tony Williams Dance Center and Step by Step in Waltham, MA. In her off season from JMBT, Janelle leads her own troupe called: Janelle Gilchrist Dance Troupe (). Magdalena Gyftopoulos received her dance training at the Boston Ballet School with Anne-Marie Holmes, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, and José Mateo Ballet Theatre Young Dancer’s Program as a scholarship student. Magdalena joined the company at José Mateo Ballet Theatre in 2006, and is a member of the teaching faculty. In addition, Magdalena has worked with various other dance companies in the Boston area including Mariah Steele’s QuickSilver Dance, Tony Williams’ BalletRox, and Contrapose Dance where she has had the opportunity to work with choreographers David Parker, Sydney Skybetter, and Gianni Di Marco. Georgina Indaco was born in Boston, Massachusetts and began her dance training at an early age. In 2007 she was selected to join Boston Ballet’s pre-professional program where she trained for five years before joining the Boston Ballet Trainee Program under the leadership of Mikko Nissinen. As a student and trainee, Georgina danced in several classical and neoclassical productions with the company at the Boston Opera House. Georgina received further training at various summer programs including School of American Ballet in New York City, Pennsylvania Ballet, Boston Ballet’s Summer Dance Program and Dutch National Ballet in Amsterdam where she performed as one of the lead dancers in their end performance in Jorma, Elo, Dutch Doubles (Shapes). Georgina attended Endicott College where she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management. While in college, she joined José Mateo Ballet Theatre as an apprentice and performed in The Nutcracker. Georgina joined startup company American National Ballet in 2017 and performed in several gala and community outreach performances for their season. Georgina’s is thrilled to join José Mateo Ballet Theatre for the Spring 2018 repertory. A native New Yorker, Stephen James trained at School of American Ballet in New York City and American Dance Theater in Herricks, NY. He studied at Ailey School as a fellowship student and graduated from State University of New York (S. U. N. Y. ) Purchase College in White Plains, NY with a B. F. A. in Dance. Stephen spent summers training with Miami City Ballet, Alonzo King’s Lines Ballet, Ballet Austin, and Dance International New York in Spain and New York. He performed with Kazuko Hirabayashi Dance Theater, apprenticed with Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballett in Nürnberg, Germany and danced as a member of the second company at Ballet Hispanico “BHdos”. Stephen has also performed with the Eglevsky Ballet, RG Dance Project, and company dancer with Verb Ballets of Cleveland, OH, and company dancer with Ballet Nebraska of Omaha, NE. This is Stephen’s first season withJosé Mateo Ballet Theatre. Spencer was born in Romania and raised in Honolulu, HI. He received his training at Academie de Danse Classique Princesse Grace, Woodbury Ballet and Hawaii State Ballet and was taught by instructors Randyl Errica, Marika Besobrasova and John Landovsky. In 2008 Spencer was invited to participate in the Bolshoi Ballet Academy’s Gala performance. He was awarded a gold medal for pas de deux in the Connecticut Classic Competition in 2011 and a silver medal for variation in 2012. Spencer joined Josè Mateo Ballet Theatre in 2011. Jaclyn is a native of Hingham, MA. She is a graduate of Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre’s Young Dancers Program and YouthWorks. As a student, she performed the role of Clara in JMBT’s “The Nutcracker. ” She has also received training from the Boston Ballet School. Jaclyn joined Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre as an apprentice in 2008 and was promoted to company member in 2009. She is a member of JMBT’s teaching faculty, as well. in May 2014, Jaclyn graduated cum laude from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree in English, Extension Studies and is currently pursuing a Master of Liberal Arts degree in English, Extension Studies from Harvard University. Julia Stetson born in Westchester, NY and trained with Cleveland Ballet and Cincinnati Ballet. She completed the Royal Academy of dance grades III-V with distinction. She attended the School for Creative and Performing Arts and the College Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, where she earned her BFA and was selected to dance with both Dayton Ballet and Cincinnati Ballet. Julia has danced professionally with Albany Berkshire Ballet, Ballet Quad Cities and Boston Dance Company. Julia is a certified instructor of the Burdenko method Water and Sports Therapy as well as Barre Boston. She is completing her Pilates certification this summer. Haruka Tamura was born in Tokyo, Japan, and started training at the age of 5. She received a BFA in Dance Performance from The Hartt School, University of Hartford under direction of Stephen Pier in 2014. There she performed Martha Graham’s “Dark Meadow Suite: They Who Dance Together” at The Joyce Soho in New York as an original cast member of Peggy Lyman-Hayes’ 2011 revision and as the lead dancer “Eliza” in “The King and I” at The Muny, St. Louis, in 2012. Some of her most memorable roles include the lead in “Paquita”, Balanchine’s “Who Cares”, “Four Temperaments”, and numerous contemporary works by choreographers such as Helen Pickett, Emory Lecrone, Viktor Plotnikov and Charlotte Griffin. Ms Tamura is a Dizzy Feet Foundation Scholarship Recipient (2011-2012). Haruka joined José Mateo Ballet Theatre in 2014. Cecilia Zevallos was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts and graduated from José Mateo Ballet Theatre’s Young Dancers Program and Youthworks in June, 2017. She trained for multiple summers at Miami City Ballet and studied in Prague, Czech Republic with internationally renowned artists. Cecilia has danced in JMBT’s The Nutcracker every year since 2008, performing all children’s roles from Mouse to Clara. Since her mother is also a graduate of the school and was a company member, Cecilia has known José Mateo Ballet Theatre all her life. Aside from dancing, Cecilia is an accomplished pianist and has won numerous awards and has performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. She continues to pursue piano, violin and music composition. This is Cecilia’s first season with the company.
