Fall 2019 Edition’s Thread Banjo’s Perspective Drop It Kaname Sudou is your average high-school student, toiling away in life with his best buds. One day, however, he receives a mysterious invitation to use an app on his smart phone, and, upon accepting, finds himself thrust into an augmented reality where superpowers exist, riches implode, and death glooms overhead. Coined Darwin’s Game, this survival-of-the-fittest situation demands everything – but supplies almost nothing in return. The first episode is a double-feature, but it only serves to stab home the point that this anime has a difficult time outrunning its tired premises and eye-rolling events. Motivations are bland. Outcomes have little consequential value. Themes take a backseat to uninteresting dialogue. Alongside the lackluster duels and the inevitable overseers, the storytelling has thus far been a keen recipe for trite dealings. A lack of meta details and necessary explanations seek to create an air of mystery to the whole debacle, yet this direction exacerbates the show’s problems. I. e., this no knowledge is no good, for the implausibility and the irrationality of the decisions and the confrontations equates to suspended disbelief that drags down the evolution of its natural selection. Drop It “I wasn’t too hopeful going into the show, death game shows are generally hard to pull off due to the large cast and limited run time. Darwin’s Game attempts to tackle this issue by focusing on only a few characters. Normally you’d think that’s a good thing, but if anything it’s to the shows detriment in this case, as there’s not a single interesting character in the show. Thus far out of all the named characters, only two of them has been developed to the point where I can even call them one-dimensional. And I’d be damned if they’re not some impressively one-dimensional characters. We're stuck with an extremely bland insert protagonist, wiith the few traits he has actually affecting his character negatively and a heroine who looks good, but out of place in this show. Speaking of visuals, the fight choreography is really boring and the animation and art style is nothing special at all so we end up with mediocrity in that regard. If I am to be honest, the show has so many faults, I can begin to cover them all and it'd only be worth watching as a hate watch or as popcorn material with your mates. There's probably a good 20-30 shows better than Darwin's Game from this season, so just don't watch i unless you're really bored. ” (English Title: Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! ) Banjo’s Perspective Must Watch It Anime is life. At least, that seems to be the case for Midori Asakusa of Eizouken ni wa Te wo Dasu na!. She dreams of making anime, drawing out sketches and ideas based on her own favorite elements and the avant-garde city where she lives. With help from her money-hungry best friend Sayaka Kanamori and their newfound comrade Tsubame Mizusaki, these three ladies embark on a journey to truly define art, animation, and ultimately anime. And they certainly go the distance. Above anything else, this anime personifies its namesake, creating elaborate sequences, stylized imaginings, and incredible moments that shape it into a juggernaut of visual awe. The fun musical choices complement the passion therein, yet it’s the self-made sound-effects from the voice actresses themselves that instill a personalized feel into the engaging wonders. To put devil’s advocate in motion, a rather loose plot and possible pigeonholing for the main trio raise the tiniest of flags. Nevertheless, to return the other way, its overall potential is clearly there anyway as the open-ended nature of its storytelling and the grounded realism of the characters prove it has inherent writing chops. With meta inclusions of drawing techniques and the fact that the comedic pieces land upright, and this anime becomes worthy of several high-fives. Another Perspective, courtesy of /u/meiiro: Must Watch It “From first glance, “Keep Your Hands Off Of Eizouken! ” may look like your typical high school girl comedy. However, it’s much more than that; Eizouken is a quirky, imaginative look into the world of animation and people following their passions. It follows three distinctly different girls, each with their own fleshed out personalities and aspirations, on their journey to creating anime together. The most enjoyable thing about Eizouken is that it’s never afraid to blur reality and fiction together. Each brainstorming session transforms into a fantastical journey. Figuring out how a windmill moves turns into a dynamic animation sequence with explosions and all new inventions. Even more than its random ventures into fantasy, the setting of Eizouken is its own breed of interesting. A faculty room in a pool, a clock on a school the students can’t even see- there’s so much to unpack, and it never gets boring. These settings only serve to enhance the true stars, the characters. The dynamic between the main trio is nothing short of amazing; each personality is designed to compliment and contrast the other. More than that, the cast is already fleshed out and realistic; there’s no such thing as being two-dimensional from the very get-go. Overall, Eizouken is an enjoyable watch, down-to-earth in plot and outside the box in presentation. Many have described it to be in the same genre as Shirobako - a sincere love letter to anime. If there’s one show you don’t want to miss this season, it’s Eizouken. Banjo’s Perspective Watch It What do you get when you take the future-crime aspect of Minority Report, the mind-delving craziness of Inception, and the persuasive psychosis of Silence of the Lambs? The answer is ID: Invaded. An original (that is, non-source adaptation) story, this anime has started for itself an intriguing crime thriller in most regards. The show balances its time between the detective work of its central protagonist and the informants who analyze his findings. What transpires, then, is a cool duality whose simultaneous weirdness and realness melds together in a very neat way. Moreover, the anime is keen on exploring the important members of its cast and the wild setting it has created. Intentional parallels across plotlines and the blurring of lines between the “heroes” and the “villains” further pushes the story and the characters to higher levels. The artistic vision for this show isn’t anything too special, so there does exist room for improvement. But this early on, the predictions and discoveries of its identity should hopefully be a satisfying endeavor. Another Perspective, courtesy of /u/Nazenn: Drop It “With obvious world similarities to Psycho-Pass and an intriguing main character, ID:Invaded had all the pieces needed to be the next big sci-fi crime mystery, but it spends far too much of its runtime focusing on its bloated side cast and repetitive exposition. Any moment we’re not following the MC characters investigations in a criminal’s mindscape, we’re usually stuck sitting in a room listening to generic “investigators” talk at each other, using lifeless dialogue that doesn’t showcase any of their individual personalities. One character will say something, another will repeat it back to them as a question, only for the next character to repeat it again in a different way. If they’re not using techno-babble to explaining the details of the machine in excruciating detail irrelevant to the current drama going on, they’re narrating everything that’s happening on screen to the level of allowing the show to be more of an audiobook. While the MC’s investigations and history are very interesting, they also fall victim to this over-exposition the moment we return to the investigators. It strips away a lot of the mystery when are made to listen rather than watch, having the show tell you what does and doesn’t matter. If the show cut this excess and focused purely on the three interesting characters it would be a different story, but with its current structure it makes it hard to recommend unless you want feel like you’re being talked at for 20 minutes each week. ” Banjo’s Perspective Drop It Sometime in the future, true virtual reality has become a norm for most gamers. Reiji Mukudori, interested in such a place, decides to make his own character within such a VRMMO video game: Infinite Dendrogram. Unlike traditional MMOs, however, this adventure has left excitement behind. The key motif of this story comes from the understood notion that this VR world is organic and alive. Sadly, that’s the extent of the anime, for the unfortunate reality is instead that the surrounding parts are devoid of the same fortitude. The main character, his “maid”, and the supporting cast are largely forgettable. The story beats have been totally ineffective. The attempts at incorporating the gaming side of things are meager at best. It goes on. The anime doesn’t seem up to the challenge of asking – let alone answering – the moral and the societal questions that their literal realistic fantasy entails. Not to mention that, on an artistic front, the show shows weak signs already. When all is said and done, the scope and the impact of this project is not just finite but practically zero. Consider It “I can hear the detractors now. Yadda yadda SAO clone yadda yadda loli sidekick yadda yadda kuma yadda yadda drop. What these sweeping generalizations miss is that this show is actually a fun thing to watch. The fight animation has been great, the details of the world are wonderful, and the main characters are nicely done yet without the incessant edgelord mentality that is far too common in the VRMMO subgenre. You know that they are playing a game for the sake of playing a game, without any need for grand stakes or heavy consequences. And oh boy, does that game look like fun. A sandbox environment where the characters can change the game world significantly would be on my top list of things to try out, the concept of fully AI driven NPCs is fascinating, and the little hints about the greater gameworld makes me wish that full-dive technology was a real thing so I could waste my free time playing it. For fans of the VRMMO subgenre, this should be promoted to Watch status. For everyone else, consider this as an alternative to the others languishing in your drop lists. ” (English Title: Interspecies Reviewers) Banjo’s Perspective Consider It From humans to elves, demons to beasts, and any other manner of creature in-between, Ishuzoku Reviewers stars a plethora of species-specific humanoids. But it’s not quite that tame. Oh no. In fact, it’s the complete opposite, for this anime focuses on the one inherent quality that drives biology: sex. Stunk, Zel, and Crim make it their mission to critique these sexual encounters, describing their likes and dislikes which culminate in that all-important climactic score. In doing so, the anime thrusts with vigor in different ways. The comedy angle keeps the content lighthearted throughout. The emphasis on being sex-positive aligns with the ecchi genre. And the scenes may as well be deemed pornography for just how much they are willing to depict (especially so in the uncensored version). Ironically enough, though, the diversity within the anime is also its downfall. Catering to everyone and everything means that, amidst the laughs and the sexiness, the weird and the nasty inevitably materialize. Indeed, needing to endure such moments is arguably not justifiable in the long run. If nothing else, the project has some nice production values, and the sex shows no signs of stopping its upward debauchery. So, for now, its final review must wait. Consider It “Ishuzoku Reviewers is certainly a unique show, the entire premise is simple, two guys want to have sex with as many different creatures in their fantasy world as possible, and after they sex up their local brothels, they write a review about their experience with said species, and give it a rating from 1-10. The art is pretty good, and the character design is honestly pretty great from what I've seen so far. Every species has its own unique traits, and no two species that I've seen really look too similar. On top of this, the show probably has one of my favorite OPs of the season, and the ED isn't bad either. The show, as you'd expect, is very fanservice heavy, there are a few scenes that are honestly, just hentai, so if you're not into that, I'd definitely recommend staying away from this show. However, if you're looking for an ecchi heavy show, or you don't mind ecchi, this show may just be for you since the humor in the show itself can honestly be pretty hilarious! However, one final point I unfortunately feel I need to make since the show is an ecchi after all. If you're the type of person who prefers small or medium breasts, you might be somewhat disappointed as thus far the show has been pretty lacking in that regard. ” (English Title: BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense. ) Banjo’s Perspective Watch It As the other major VRMMO offering of the season, Bofuri follows Maple, a young lady taking part in her first-ever online gaming experience. Like any normal human, she hates pain, and so she stacks points into her defense stat. Then more defense. Then even more defense. So much defense that her build becomes an anomaly worthy of this story. This anime channels cuteness as Maple stumbles into upgrades, skirmishes, and interactions, causing a lot of hilarity and smiles as a result. Her best friend Sally contrasts her both in personality and skills; their buddy duo makes for a wholesome relationship. And the extra side details – such as the variety of enemies, the forums, the admin patches, and so on – solidly round out the underlying game setting. The story and the characters seem content with where they’re at, so they’ll most likely not go anywhere too deep or too compelling, missing out on that worthwhile status. But when the action segments impress and the docile moments delight regardless of those factors, the project stacks its own defense in the form of above-average execution. Drop It “ Bofuri ticks all the boxes you expect from an isekai/VRMMO show centered on an overpowered protagonist: light comedy, action, cute girls, etc. Unfortunately, ticking boxes is all it does, and it does so to the detriment of any potential it may have offered. The premise can be grasped entirely from the title. Maple, airhead and VRMMO newbie, dumps her points into vitality and stumbles into the most broken build New World Online has ever seen. In theory, this gimmick has merit; an unkillable protagonist with no offense bumbling through combat could be interesting. This gimmick is also immediately undermined when the world starts bending over backwards to make sure Maple never experiences any struggles whatsoever. Virtually all problems are immediately resolved, often through sheer luck. Maple and co. are blessed with plot armor and play by different rules. Perhaps the saddest thing about Bofuri is that nothing about it is egregious (except the game design), but nothing stands out, either. The world is a bog-standard fantasy VRMMO. The comedy is inoffensive, hardly eliciting a chuckle. There have been two strong action sequences, but they're sandwiched between long segments with little of interest happening. It's relaxed, but it's also utterly forgettable and requires no engagement from the viewer. Even worse, it's brainless, and thinking in-depth just makes its flaws stand out more. I can understand why some might enjoy Bofuri, but I see no reason to watch it over the myriad of other shows it's competing with. ” (English Title: Toilet-bound Hanako-kun) Banjo’s Perspective Consider It At her school, Nene Yashiro hears about one of the seven mystical wonders haunting their building. She goes to an out-of-the-way bathroom, knocks on the stall, and meets Hanako-kun, the wish-giving spirit who maintains order between their two separate realms. For better or for worse, they now help each other, giving Toilet-bound Hanako-kun its origin. What this show boasts most is a wonderful sense of artistry. Actual animation trends towards the low side, sure, but the shot-for-shot visuals make up for this lack and then some. Vibrant colors. Great use of lighting. Changing styles. Paneled compositions for flair. Nice designs. The anime is definitely one of the best-looking offerings this season. Otherwise, there’s not much else to boast about. Its sense of comedy and cuteness isn’t the greatest. Its “monster-of-the-week” approach has yet to tie in well with a supposed central throughput. And the characters themselves are uninspired. It also has a (strangely enough) unheard of problem in this medium: incorrect audio tuning. More specifically, the gain on the microphones used by the voice actors and actresses is so high, one can hear the humming feedback during quiet scenes (which are surprisingly common), breaking immersion and demonstrating an obvious misstep in execution. Again, however, the art alone prevents the entire project from being flushed down the toilet. Must Watch It “If you’ve watched much anime set in high schools, you’ve probably encountered the “Seven Wonders” trope: a set of seven urban legends the students will use to creep each other out. Hanako-kun gives that trope a clever twist, being set in a school where those rumors are true and supernatural beings from the oddly specific and morbid minds of teenagers really do haunt the halls of the school, ranging from the inconvenient to the deadly. The show is a creepy comedy, sort of in the vein of Nightmare Before Christmas, and while it never fails to deliver a (mostly) lighthearted tone and plenty of laughs, it also provides a wonderfully atmospheric setting and plenty of odd and uncanny moments. This is particularly noticeable in the design of the main character, Nene, who manages to be intensely moe while also being clearly a bit unsettling, with her ever-present skull brooch, green-tipped hair, and doll-like eyes that are a bit strange even for an anime character. The characters have great chemistry, particularly between Hanako-kun and Nene, the two leads. The art in particular is excellent, with a subdued pallet and more stylized designs giving the show a storybook-like feel. The show as a whole has an almost otherworldly quality to it, especially in the old building, where most of the apparitions seem to originate. In all, I have been thoroughly enjoying the show, and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes comedy with a dash of creepiness. ” (English Title: Asteroid in Love) Banjo’s Perspective Consider It Mira Konohata has a fondness for space and the galactic. Her love of the above sees her joining her school’s astronomy-turned-Earth-sciences club where she meets a bunch of likeminded girls. As a group, they aim to learn about the stars, the rocks, and the bonds they share sandwiched by these halves. Credit where credit is due, the vibe of the anime vies for realism. Rather than injecting absurdist comedy or over-the-top silliness, the events and the mood at large stay normalized. It isn’t so much flat as it is natural, letting the cute bits and the fun reactions have a subtler delivery. Plus, while the setting is arguably a tad lame, the fluid animation does not go unnoticed for the CGDCT show. However, it’s probably more accurate to call it “CG---" because it has effectively dropped the “DCT”. Despite the premises, where the anime is supposed to be about the study of space and the research into geology, the content often distracts itself. Granted, they work towards fleshing out the characters, so they aren’t completely meaningless, but the reasoning for telling this tale and consequently the flight of this asteroid is flimsy at best. Must Watch It “This show is, essentially, a cute girls show, but this time it's an Astronomy/Geology club. There's a diverse cast of characters, cute in their own ways, but not overly saccharine like GochiUsa can be. One of the things that often plagues cute girl shows is the reliance on characters explicitly calling attention to something zany another character has done. Koisuru Asteroid seems to largely avoid this pitfall. It's not what I'd consider laugh out loud funny, but I believe it's trying to balance its more kooky jokes and gags with more endearing character moments sometimes glazed with yuri undertones, and having seen the first 3 episodes, I feel it's done an excellent job of this so far. That's not to say Asteroid doesn't have elements that feel obligatory for shows of this type, episode 2 features a bath-house scene for instance (because of course it does) however even that is used to actually weave dialogue into the show - dialogue directly relevant to both the situation the characters are in and the overall subject matter of the story. Much like Doga Kobo's previous work ( New Game! in particular, which has a very similar artstyle to Asteroid) the colour palette is bright and inviting and the girls in general have pretty solid character designs. I think this show is a must-watch not because it's necessarily ground-breaking, but is a very competently written and produced cute girl show in almost every area, and those of us that like that kind of show will definitely enjoy Asteroid. ” (English Title: In/Spectre) Banjo’s Perspective Consider It Youkai are the otherworldly beings that beget reverence or peril depending on their alignment. For Kotoko Iwanaga and Kurou Sakuragawa, two seemingly normal people intimately connected to youkai, these beings require their wisdom and their strength (respectively). And for Kyokou Suiri as a whole, these swirling dynamics lead to a peculiar story. Two key elements form the core of this show: Kotoko herself and the infused comedy. Kotoko more or less carries the project. Her rapport with Kurou is fun, her characterization is off-kilter, and her forwardness keeps it all moving. As for the comedy, it upholds the tricky business of coexisting with the drama without ruining it. That’s not an easy feat, so it should be praised to some extent. Beyond these two elements, the rest is mixed. Huge amounts of dialogue are not necessarily a negative, and the exchanges here are by no means laborious. However, it’s a decidedly uneventful task as they (most often Kotoko) just sit down and explain ad nauseum without there being much to care about. Furthermore, the youkai backdrop has been uninteresting, too, and the art, while solid, really only has the character designs going for it. Thus, the current inspection stays nominal. Watch It “An anime can have many strengths. Production values, characters, directing, story, but Kyouko Suiri strengths lies in the thing that isn't noticeable right away but is as essential as any other aspect of an anime: the dialogue. The characters in the anime are witty, thus the dialogue is witty, but it isn't witty in loud and overwhelming sense. All the remarks are evenly spread out throughout an episode so that the dialogue continues to feel fresh. But the biggest reason why the dialogue is so superb is how everything flows so well. Characters talk for minutes on end but it never gets stale or annoying because of how well their sentences flow. The pace of how the words are spoken is soothing. The banter between the characters, how much they respond to one another and how much information is actually being said is juuuuuust right. I have found myself watching episodes only to hear the ED and going like ‘wait, the episode is already over? ’ and that is not a bad thing at all. The reason why I gave this anime a ''Watch It'' and not a ''Must Watch It'' is because 1. the story is good now but I can't say much for later and 2. The anime is very dialogue heavy, so even if the dialogue is great if you like more action in an anime I recommend not checking this out. For everyone else, if you like mysteries and witty characters, absolutely check this anime out. ” Banjo’s Perspective Consider It In Nekopara, cats are no longer four-legged pets with fur all over their bodies. Rather, they are basically humans with fluffy ears and expressive tails that simply take on the mannerisms of their feline counterparts. And for Chocolo, Vanilla, and the other cat girls, their daily lives are simplistic enough to have few worries, save for a recent development. Per their catlike nature, the anime brands itself as a slice-of-life project with cuteness as its mainstay. The “cats” will climb along buildings, drool at the sight of fish, and chase after inanimate objects. All the while, their cute behavior emerges as they handle regular human activities, work at the confectionary of their household, and bounce their personalities off each other in distinct pairings. Artistically, the designs for the cat girls are varied and fit the motifs of the anime, but the remainder of its visual acumen is passable at best. Thematically, the anime isn’t very concerned with delivering a message. Narratively, the small subplot tries its paw at world building but lacks the interest to make it meaningful. So, characteristically, the anime elicits smiles no doubt, yet whether this shtick uses up its nine lives before the end has become a dire possibility. Consider It “Ahem… do you know about moe anime? Cute girls and their adorable antics, fluffy atmosphere and expressive animation, all attached to a weekly broadcast of the utmost charm… Do you like shows like that? If so, consider checking out Nekopara! The cutest nekos you’ve ever seen await you there~ Set in a world where sapient catgirls are commonplace, Nekopara’s story loosely follows Minazuki Kashou’s opening of his bakery La Soleil. However, any plot is entirely marginalized in favour of foregrounding the antics of the Minazuki family’s nekos – the moemoe “good stuff” we’re all here for. The ensemble of catgirls includes lovable idiot Chocola, deadpan snarker Vanilla, closet-pervert Cinnamon, among others – archetypes that nobody hasn’t seen before, but still do a respectable job of bouncing off of each other and creating light-hearted comedy. The show’s appeal is greatly enhanced by the good job it does transferring the nekos’ lavishly detailed visual novel designs into animation, with plenty of perky nekomimi and expressive tail wags. For those skeptical of the property’s origins, the TV anime is remarkably ecchi-free and family-friendly, trading off cutting-edge chest-bounciness customization for all-ages wholesomeness. All in all, Nekopara is not a project that’s especially ambitious or exciting, but it successfully capitalizes on the appeal of its source material and does its job as a moe anime very competently. If you are interested in a show that’s fluffier than a catgirl’s ears but doesn’t do much else besides, then joining Kashou and furrends at La Soleil would be a purrfect choice. ” Banjo’s Perspective Drop It The psychology of the mind is simultaneously a beautiful and terrifying field. Doubly so for the men of Pet who dive into this dichotomy to manipulate their hapless victims. Hiroki and Tsukasa are two such individuals that do the diving, and, while the anime would like the audience to believe its capabilities, this mess is not very promising. So much of the show is already either misplaced or wrong. The production values, from the consistency of the art to the voice acting, are subpar. The characters desperately wish to be backed by mature writing but come off as ridiculous. And the horror elements do not have a strong enough punch to influence the viewer. If that weren’t bad enough, the anime gets worse. Unnecessary convolution in the storytelling, uninteresting drama, and low entertainment opportunities in general compound the present mess into a catastrophe. There’s almost nothing worth praising in this project, no matter how many “peaks” or “valleys” this pet visits. Watch It “Pet is a psychological show, about people with powers to get into other's minds and alter memories. While this has been played out in various shows to different degrees, Pet manages to drive home the feeling of how scary this would actually be, and how it can be exploited. What this show excels in, is the structure it establishes to 'memories', and the rules for 'altering' them, which the characters strictly abide by. This results in clear boundaries of what they can and can't do, with consequences for their actions, as opposed to pulling rabbits out of the hat. As a viewer, we aren't provided with all the details at the start; in fact, we are thrown right into the mix with a confusing first episode. However, as the show goes on, we learn more about the world and the main cast, with enough questions in our mind to keep us intrigued, while also not leaving us confused. The cast features strong characters with unique personalities, whose motives and relationships we slowly learn more about. Technically, the show is solid, with notably crisp animations and sound direction, turning the quality up in key scenes. The OP by TK, and the ED (by Memai SIREN, prod. by TK) are exquisite, living up to his reputation. To summarize, I recommend watching this show for the unique world-building and visualization on the premise of 'altering memories', strong cast, and a mystery which slowly unravels the bigger picture. ” (English Title: Science Fell In Love, So I Tried to Prove It) Banjo’s Perspective Must Watch It Ayame Himuro and Shinya Yukimura are scientists dedicated to their craft. But an unforeseen metaphysical variable has entered the equation: love. As scientists, they conclude that the only “true” solution to deciphering their feelings stems from experimentation, with RikeKoi chronicling their scientific venture. Purely a rom-com, this anime has been filled with romance and comedy aplenty. Their different hypotheses lead to heart skips, hilarity, and huge amounts of enjoyment as the two lovebirds realize their connection among the misguided ideas. Better yet, the college setting enwraps the project in a refreshing sense of maturity, and the theme on what exactly is love receives two thumbs-up. And the supporting cast – the regular lady, the love “guru”, the woman who stirs the pot – round out the group and supply their own romantic and comedic edge for increased fun. The artistry isn’t the most spectacular around, but its changes to match for laughs or for emotions are duly noted. And yes, perhaps their formulations are not perfect science per se, but it’s science-y enough (with or without the bear-professor education) to don those touted lab coats. Well, here's an anime that is basically that, but in explicit and sadly also in worse. The main premise of Rikei is easily explained: A male and a female scientist like each other very much, but having never watched educational television as a child, never learned to understand their own emotions. As such, once the topic arises, they go full-on Hollywood scientist and seek to prove their mutual love in all kind of scientific and mathematical ways. All this is commented on by another scientist, the audience surrogate/straight man/best girl, who actually is a normal human being and therefore able to show how even in-universe, the main couple‘s behaviour is not normal. Now, on paper, this all sounds very nice, but it quickly runs into trouble: The characters, officially highly-educated scientists, too often behave like total idiots in topics they should understand, asking questions they should know the answer too and taking too long to come up with an obvious solutions. Also, the science often feel much more arm chairy than if it was written by an actual scientist. In short, this is a must-watch for romance lovers, but everyone less into romance, or maybe even interested due to the S;G parallels, should prepare to groan way too often. ” (English Title: Smile Down the Runway) Banjo’s Perspective Consider It The medium of anime covers a wide range of topics, and Runway de Waratte walks onto this spectrum by highlighting a topic that is foreign to much of the population: professional fashion. Chiyuki Fujito is an aspiring model, Ikuta Tsumura is an aspiring designer, and the two together seek to become the stars they know they can be. On the one hand, the anime has created an interesting project. The fashion premise, as denoted above, already acts as a lure for the viewer, but its steps to curate themes on adversity help with its writing basis. Hardships faced, perseverance needed. Common threads that the main characters struggle with in their tough jobs. Speaking of, Chiyuki and Ikuta are a nice duo, two sides of the same coin that have their own parts to play yet whose intertwined stories strike a solid balance. On the other hand, the project showcases some cracks. Parts of the drama can feel overblown when harsh actions and loud reactions interfere with the overall seriousness of the story at hand. Oddly as well, the music direction, selections, and timings are often overbearing, clouding its scenes with more sound to enact emotional effect at the cost of audience distraction. But with a clear runway to follow and primed arcs to unfold, this one may very well be smiling come the season’s end. Must Watch It “In a season that has everything from beloved sequels to a VRMMO CGDCT and to the tales of a wish-granting toilet ghost, a seemingly boring show with runway modeling as the theme was bound to fly under most people's radar. And unjustifiably so - taking Smile on the Runway's more intense moments into account, it should be able to hold its own against battle shounens when it comes to keeping you glued to the screen. The show follows the journey of Tsumura, an aspiring clothes designer, and Chiyuki, an aspiring runway model, both of whom could never go past the "aspiring" stage until they met each other due to life's circumstances - Tsumura has to choose supporting his large family over getting into designer school, while Chiyuki is half a head shorter than the acceptable height for professional models. Overall, Smile on the Runway looks like it's shaping up to be a nicely balanced slice of life drama with a basic but well-executed premise, more than passable technical aspects, and last but definitely not least for this kind of show - great characters. If you think your seasonal roster could use another slice of life show, then I highly recommend giving it a shot. ” (English Title: Somali and the Forest Spirit) Banjo’s Perspective Must Watch It In a fictious land teeming with a multitude of environments and strange creatures, Golem is an ancient, sentient robot who oversees his esoteric forest. One day, he spots not a bunny or a wolf but instead a human child named Somali, seemingly abandoned and without hope. Humans no longer exist in this land, so Golem takes it upon himself to find them, to bring Somali back home, beginning the amazing journey of Somali to Mori no Kamisama Each aspect of this project has been nothing less than great thus far. The touching story of this “father” and “daughter” evokes themes of family, time, and life. Beautiful artistry paints the landscapes with deft skill and gorgeous detail. Golem and Somali are sound characters insofar as Golem learns about emotions and Somali grows up from the world around her. Fantastic music allows the weight of the scenes to shine. And the adorableness, the wholesomeness, and the sincerity throughout grant leagues of enjoyment. In total, the spirit and the execution of this anime is as grand as it can be right now, making this show absolutely one of the best of the best this season. Watch It "Somali to Mori no Kamisama is a quaint Iyashikei show that centers on Somali, a human child who lives in a fantastical society where humans have been mostly wiped out or are sought after as meals, and Golem, her unlikely father figure. If I could pinpoint the two things that make the show interesting, its that Somali is as cute as they come and her relationship with Golem is unique and heart-warming. Three episodes in and the show hasn't failed to capitalise on Somali’s fascination with the eccentricity of every settlement they visit, often leading to misadventures. Somali is cute in most scenes she’s in and dazzles the audience with her boundless curiosity and adoration of her father figure, which makes way for some unique father-daughter scenes that’s just interesting to see, to say the least. While they could have made Somali just a kid who only chases things, throws a fit and does nothing else and be done with it, we instead get a child who loves to support her father and tries to help him, as we watch her father fumble bluntly in his effort to care for Somali. This dynamic is honestly one of the selling points of the show, and if you like seeing the charming (mis)adventures of a curious father daughter duo with a relaxing fantastical setting as a background, Somali to Mori no Kamisama is the show for you. ”.

She was so cute, the first time I saw her she was rolling around in her mothers' lap, why did I decide to play a part in all of this? it was something new and fresh and I wanted to get out of my comfort zone, this is why I travelled anyway, to find and feel, learn and explore things I've never seen before but a big part of it all was because I never met a girl as incredible as this one and I wasn't going to give that all up over a kid. We lived together before introducing her child to me who had been with her grandma for a few weeks, but after a while baby was moving in, my girlfriend was also kind of new to all of this, she had never really looked after baby without her mother around, I was 'Daddy' and I would be around this child 24/7, I bathed her, brushed her teeth, changed her diapers, fed her milk, put her to sleep, made her laugh, we jumped around, I'd take her on little bike journeys whilst her mum was at work and I was there to comfort her, we'd often play silly games at home as three, like football and throw and catch. You seem like such perfect parents, why don' you try it then? Why don't you try to do it... all these childless people criticising me was starting to piss me off, they don't have a clue what it is like I used to say. Months on and the sex stopped, it was hard to get any in throughout the day and by night we were exhausted, the baby would wake up at 6am and there was no chance for passionate love like before, we were half of the people we once were, full of energy, passionate and wild, suddenly just about making it throughout the day... I remember there was a time when we had come back from my girlfriends' village after new years, the baby was crying in the back and wanted to be picked up, we stopped and I picked her up and walked her around, then I put her back into her child seat, we continued to drive and then she kept crying, we were on the road and we couldn't stop, it was late and we needed to get home, she kept crying and crying, I'd make little sounds to try calm her down, after all, she just wanted our attention, we got home and we turned around to her in a pile of sick, we felt like shit, we failed as parents, that day my girlfriend didn't speak to me all night and in the morning she was very quiet around me. I felt like shit too, if I knew she would throw up I would've stopped the car a few more times but I thought it was just one of those purple crying moments, the baby was starting to divide us at this point, no fault of its own, the stress was getting to us. There were many other things, but I'm just saying it was bloody awful, I remember talking to my girlfriend about it and she agreed with a lot of the things I was saying, she said, "everyone seems to be so happy with their kids but I feel like that's just to the outside world, I'm always posting on Facebook about how great my kid is too and so on and whilst she is a lovely child it is exhausting and different behind closed doors". She is right, its hard work and the thought of me even sticking another 18 years like she will have to seriously stressed the shit out of me, the thought of education, growing up, finances, the tantrums, the social pressure from peers, just everything compiled into one. Why do it? It was a few months later that we ended it, it wasn't working out for me and I was so grateful I could walk away from it all, I'm lucky I wasn't bound by blood. I loved the pair of them so much but life had so much more to offer me, I used to think to myself, "Is this it? " is this all life is now? Even with this perfect beautiful girl, a house, car and more, I wasn't happy because my goals were not just to be a dad, you know there were times I just felt like a servant to the child, I loved her but there is just so much more in life, life has so many better experiences. So it was a great experience, it's probably saved me thousands in time and money, but if you do ever feel pressured into having a kid, just remember there is no going back, think about all the things you'll be giving up, just to please whoever it is, your mother, your wife, your husband and family, to keep up with your friends, whatever it is. Know that you're giving and sacrificing a lot of valuable things and when you do have that child, relaxing will become a luxury. When I see parents in public struggling with their kids I empathise with them, I know the troubles they're going through and it is a reminder of the things I went through and I'm just fortunate that I don't have to deal with that anymore. TLDR: There is more to life than children, the freedom you sacrifice, the beauty of relationships can be divided, the mental energy absorbed, the luxury of relaxing, the constant outside judgement and the sacrifice of your goals and desires. Don't let your parents or partner force you into something without knowing what you're getting into. The lessons step fathering taught me, I'm glad it was just step fathering because I was able to walk away from it all!

Watch Online The climbers. I sang this at my primary school leavers last Tuesday😭. I've been dealing with this for 16 years, and I would like to share my advice and experience with this community. Hopefully this will help some of you out there, and please feel free to add your own advice and tips in the comments section. A special thanks to all those in this community that added new tips and suggestions. This guide has grown considerably. For the newly diagnosed Don't panic, this is one of the easiest auto-immune diseases to deal with, and you know how to finally feel better. You need to read ingredients now, it's a pain, but it will become a habit. Check out this list and avoid the ingredients. You will have to rely on cooking more, but there are GF substitutes for every recipe, when made at home you can eat almost anything. Don't feel like you can't eat anymore. Watch out for cross contamination. If a surface, utensil, or hand touches your food that previously touched gluten, you can get sick. Make sure to wash/wipe things before your food touches areas. Most restaurants with "Gluten Free" options are not for you, they are for Fad-Dieters. There are some good places though, check out the later section on eating out. Living with non-Celiac people Ideally you want a completely GF home, but not everyone has that luxury. If you can have a completely GF home you can skip this section. A shared toaster is not possible, but a toaster oven is possible - put some foil down as a protective barrier. Always wipe surfaces with soap and water before preparing your food, or use plastic wrap as a barrier. Watch out for baking! Usually flour becomes air-borne when baking and settles all over the place. Make sure your food is always covered. Always rinse utensils before using them, those that eat bread could also touch utensils. Always rinse off fruit before eating them (even if previously washed off) If possible, keep separate wood utensils, wood is porous and can trap gluten particles. Yes you can use a shared oven, microwave, toaster oven, etc. Treat gluten like bacteria and make sure to wash hands frequently, especially when touching common surfaces (fridge handle, draw handles, containers, etc) You should keep separate sponges for GF and no-GF dishes to wash credit: /u/Boriquabitch Consider color coded sponges, utensils, etc when having dedicated GF things in a shared kitchen credit: /u/KatieBSH Certain food items should have a separate duplicate version: butter, peanut butter, jelly, cream cheese, etc - anything that a utensil can dip into. credit: /u/KittenWhispersnCandy Squeeze bottles are an easier alternative to duplicate items. credit: /u/Caramellatteistasty Remember to label things that are GF in the cabinet and fridge, it will help others not contaminate your food. Have your gluten eating roommates rinse dishes and utensils before putting them in the dishwasher. credit: /u/Fluffyfluffycake For those that still get sick Sometimes you do everything possible to be Gluten Free, and you are still sick. It's extremely frustrating, and depressing. Don't give up! Here are my tips to finding the hidden source of gluten. Another thing to keep in mind, everyone has different sensitivity levels, so what works for some, doesn't work for others. I happen to be very sensitive, but I have family and friends who are less sensitive, this is a self-determination. My advice is for those who are very sensitive. Food Sources: FYI - "Gluten Free" labels (at least in the US) are meaningless to those with Celiac. "Certified Gluten Free" is a much better label. Anything on shared equipment with wheat/barely/gluten is a no-no. Items made in a shared facility can be suspect. If you are trying to figure out why you are getting sick, an item with this label could be an issue. Reduce the amount of GF processed food. Even though it's below recommended levels, if you eat enough of it, you can actually trigger a reaction. It's best to eat naturally GF items if possible. Eating things from bulk bins in grocery stores is a bad idea, especially beans. Make sure to wash everything from open bins in the grocery store. Beans and lentils are hard to wash as thoroughly and could be a culprit if feeling ill. Double check all ingredients, there are lots of hidden sources of gluten, especially soy sauce. Reduce eating GF oats, and don't eat non-GF oats at all. In the US the crops grow on the same field and stray wheat/barley growing on the field cannot be separated. Consider cutting out all oats entirely if you are still feeling sick. credit: /u/eggytomato Double check drinks, especially alcohols. I found out the hard way that vodka, made from wheat, but supposedly GF, was not good enough for me though everyone online says it's fine. Also fancy wine made in real oak barrels got me (the glue for the oak barrels is wheat paste) - not much about this online either. Lifestyle Sources: Stop eating out for a while, to see if you feel better. Try an elimination diet. Start with basics and work your way up to eating normal again. Avoid inflammatory food for a while, like sugar and carbs. This is temporary, but should help you feel better. This is the most effective for me after getting sick. Make sure to change your sponge often, gluten can get trapped in there. You may need to run the dishwasher twice if there was gluten on a dish. Clean things you don't normally think of: door knobs, light switches, remotes, game controllers, mouse, keyboard, etc If you are the handy-type - watch out for drywall. The glue used between the paper and gypsum is made from wheat, and drywall dust can contain gluten. So be cautious around it, use a mask, and don't work with your mouth hanging open (I learned this the hard way). Seek Help! Use this sub-reddit to help analyze possible sources of contamination See a doctor, you may have other allergies or auto-immune disorders. It is common to have multiple auto-immune/allergy issues. Surviving outside - Eating out / Events We all want to feel normal. This is a very socially isolating disorder, but with a little will-power you can get through it. Most of our social interactions are through food, so it will be tricky to navigate. When selecting a restaurant, there is a very useful app called "FindMeGlutenFree" - with a map of venues and reviews from those with Celiac. Super helpful when traveling. If you can afford it, get a NIMA tester. The tester, and disposable capsules are covered by HSAs too. You can test your food before eating it. It will take 3 minutes, and cost roughly $5 per test capsule. It's not a 100% guarantee, but it has saved me countless times these past few years. Socially, this is awkward, to wait 3 minutes while everyone around you eats, but it's better than getting sick. I always test my food when at a restaurant or event venue. If you can, eat before going out. Always bring emergency snacks. Instead of going hungry, some small snacks like nuts or GF granola bars can help you get through an evening. It's ok to just have a drink when being out. Salad is not a safe bet, usually hands are involved in preparation. Grilled meat and veggies is the safest option in a pinch. Avoid buffets if at all possible. Cross contamination everywhere! credit: /u/eggytomato Everyone asks what happens when you eat gluten... do they really want to know?... I always just tell them "it's like food poisoning" that usually works, and they get the most understanding from that brief statement. Always tell wait-staff that you cannot have gluten, and tell them it's an "allergy" - we know it's not really, but auto-immune disorder doesn't sound as serious, and you want them to take you seriously. Does a cupcake shop offer one type of cupcake that is 'gluten free'? If it is made on the premises, it probably isn't safe. credit: /u/eggytomato Dates / Relationships / Etc I see this asked pretty often: "How do I go on a date? " "When do I tell my partner? " "I used to be a foodie, now what? " - this list goes on. This is tough, and it's hard to adapt to a new lifestyle. These are my tips and answers to these common issues: Social outings don't have to be eating! When thinking of things to do for a date, to see friends, or to make new friends, consider the following: Try going to a social dance, like Salsa or Swing Go to a concert Take an art class Go to a sporting event, though there is a lot of food there, it's not about the food Check out a museum Go see a movie Have game nights Rock Climbing Hiking Pack a picnic Learn to cook! Everyone loves someone who knows how to cook, and there really are very few limitations on what can be eaten. Friends, family, and significant others who find being gluten free "too difficult" and are not a help in your life - they just made your life easier actually. It's a way to learn real fast who is a kind and caring person and who is not. Think of it as a life filter, and it quickly removes those who are not worth your time. In the long run, they would not have been supportive in other critical areas of life. Will you be able to find a significant other? - Yes. No need to think about this one, yes. There are so many kind and compassionate people out there. Will this impact your ability to have children? - If you stick to the diet, you will be fine, nothing to worry about. Traveling Going on a vacation, or traveling for work is a lot harder now. The previous section on eating out is still applicable here, but there are extra tips when traveling. If possible, AirBNBs or hotels with a kitchen are a good idea credit: /u/Tauber10 You may consider bringing cooking essentials with you when traveling (small pot, pan, cutting board, knife) credit: /u/Tauber10 When in remote areas without any GF options, find a Wal-Mart or large grocery store - if you can find GF bread you can make PB&J sandwiches which don't need refrigeration for the day. Bananas are a quick and easy meal in most locations. Most cruises accommodate allergies well, and you can talk to the staff to get specially prepared meals, even during buffet times. NEVER rely on airlines to provide a GF meal option, 90% of the time in my experience they mess up. Always bring your own snacks on planes. Check out this comment by /u/eggytomato on traveling, excellent tips, especially on non-US travel. Below is a small snippet of their tips: The likelihood of finding GF bread in many places around the world is zero to none. Bring your own or live without. Research, research, research! Look for naturally GF foods before you get to your destination. For example, in China you could eat congee for breakfast and personal hotpot for dinner without the sauce. Don't trust American go-tos outside of America. In NZ, many American candies are made with barley instead of corn syrup. Check your labels, and abstain if you cannot read them. If you are choosing a destination, Western countries are more likely to understand Celiac Disease, but some other locations eat a lot of food that it naturally gluten free. Weigh the risk vs. reward when choosing a location. China, for example, is a really difficult place for Celiacs unless you are fluent in Chinese or have a lot of experience. Thailand is a bit easier, heard great things about India and Peru in terms of food options available. Cooking / Shopping Tips Life is different now, and it's not easy to just pick up fast food on the way home. Even if you're not eating out, there are things you can do to make life easier. Always check labels. Even if it was GF before. credit: /u/jennlody Meal prep on days off so you don't have to cook most of the week. When in college, make sure you have access to a kitchen, talk to whoever is in charge to get this accommodation. Cook in large quantities and freeze the excess. Use either a vacuum sealer or large tupperware to store food. Medical Tips Never use Reddit, or any online search for medical advice, always go to a professional. Here is my opinion on medical matters, but consider my previous statement. Make sure your medicine is actually GF, a lot of medicine has unspecified "starch" or "food starch" - UGH - check with the pharmacist for options, or see if they can verify if a manufacturer is actually GF. You can use this site as a first check for medications credit: /u/KatieBSH There is DailyMed from NIH that has detailed information if you know specifics about your medication. credit: /u/stampedingTurtles Do you need an official diagnosis? - Probably not. If successfully GF there will be none! ( my tests all show no damage now! ) Will the damage heal? - Yes. How long? - Months to years, don't worry about it, just stick to the diet. What medicine helps with Celiac symptoms? - Not much. Imodium AD Generic Brands (loperamide) can help you from running to the bathroom at a bad time. But you will have to deal with the... issues... in a few days. It just delays the inevitable. (Note: Imodium AD currently contains gluten credit: /u/floresamarillas87) Cannabis can help with the nausea, lack of appetite, inflammation etc. (for those who live in legal states) credit: /u/bit99 DO NOT BUY Gluten Cutter, Gluten-ease, or any similar product. They do nothing for someone with Celiac, and are not FDA approved. Digestive aiding enzymes are another story, and supposedly help with digestion, but always consult your doctor first. "Does Celiac disease trigger X or Y in me? " - Maybe? It's hard for even doctors to verify certain causes and effects. Eating gluten does trigger an inflammatory response in the body. What your body does with that is potentially unique to you. Common associations from inflammation I've seen: Skin blemishes / acne / breakouts Joint pain / arthritis-like symptoms Sensitivity to other allergens Mood swings / depression Brain fog Good luck everyone! I looked for signs of intrusion, taking care to check hiding spots such as closets, under my bed, in the bathtub. Satisfied that I was truly alone, I double and triple checked the locks before climbing under the sheets. Even then, the bolts felt like flimsy armor against King Sam. He was still out there, somewhere, probably feeling a fool for letting me go the last time. Deep down, I just knew he wouldn’t make the same mistake if when we met again. I tossed and turned, trying to find a position in which my panic-stricken limbs would consider taking a rest. I felt weary, but thoughts of the Polaroid kept my eyes wide open, glued to a small crack on the ceiling. Could it have been a coincidence? The thought of someone breaking into my parents’ home back in 2015 to steal a photograph was incomprehensible. Even if it was true, why had my stalker waited five years to show himself? None of it made any sense. The sounds of the city died down. The night stretched out like an endless road with red lights barring every intersection. My thoughts turned back to the man I’d expected to meet. Samuel Kennetworth’s profile had looked so real, but there was no way the woman I’d assumed to be his wife had lied. I thought of reaching out to a friend or my parents, but I was too ashamed of my part in bringing about last night’s events. There was only one person in the world who already had a low enough opinion of me that even my feeble attempt at blackmail wouldn’t surprise him*. * That person was my ex-boyfriend. Jared had seen the worst of me as our relationship fell apart after I’d started streaming on Twitch. He said I was whoring myself out and wasting my potential by dropping out of school. I accused him of resenting the fact that I made more money than him. We didn’t part on the best terms, but he seemed friendly enough on the phone when I called. Back when we were still living together, Jared was drowning in student debt as he scrambled to finish a degree in computer science. As I drove up to a neat line of townhouses in one of the nicer suburbs of our city, I realized just how far he’d come since then. “I’m sorry to have come by so early on a weekend, ” I stammered as my ex led me into a large, open-plan kitchen. “The truth is I can’t turn to anyone else, ” my voice shook as I took a seat on a tall stool at his kitchen bar counter. I stared at the impressive metal contraption. His voice softened. “Of course I’ll be there. ” _____________________ It was obvious the candles in my room had unsettled my ex-boyfriend more than he was willing to admit. So far, Jared had approached my predicament as a challenging problem, a hypothetical that needed solving. Now, he was standing in the thick of it, picking up melted candle pellets and throwing them into a large trash bag. We cleaned in silence. Once the stage was set, I decided to push the limits by dressing in a sexy corset and stockings. I told myself it was to attract more viewers and provoke King Sam, but a part of me hoped Jared would take notice as well. I applied a thick layer of red rouge, a lipstick I’d only ever worn on real-world dinner dates. The rest came naturally. Hello, all, Wanted to share my experience of LeafFilter. I looked into getting gutter guard system because I've got a second story and didn't want to get on a ladder that high, certainly not regularly. LeafFilter is the first company I checked out, because their product seemed to be the best around. I put in my info through a landing page on Sunday and got a call almost immediately, which I thought was weird. The call was also flagged by Android as spam which I thought was humorous. The guy on the phone scheduled the free estimate and mentioned that the price given by the rep will be valid for a year. Next day rolls around and a sedan rolls in my driveway, I guess I thought it'd be a handyman in a van with a ladder that can actually climb up and inspect the gutters, but just a gentleman in an embroided shirt and a fancy looking tool box. He looks around the house, uses a ladder I had out to look in the 1st floor gutters and then asks to come inside sit on a table to talk it through. Again I think this is weird because I'm used to handymen who look at an issue, tell me how much they're gonna charge, and either schedule a meeting later or fix at the moment. They don't have time to sit around usually. We go to sit down and he pulls out a binder with so many pages mentioning how great the company and product is and yadda yadda, I have worked in a quasi sales job before where we had a similar spiel so I'm already feeling dirty. One of the things he mentions is a gold star rating on BBB and how they have so many sales and no complaints, wow, not one I think, that's great. He then pulls competitor system sample from his bag of mystery and shows them to me getting my verbal commitment that those are not, indeed, what I am looking for. After 3 or so of them he pulls out theirs and goes on about how great and magical they are, self cleaning, absolutely no maintenance. Zero maintenance? I think. In a decaying, entropic universe can such a thing exist? Sales person assures me that it does and that they have a guaranty if it does clog that they will come out and fix it for free. Also, if it gets damages by a stray limb they will come out and replace it for free. Warranty is lifetime of the home and is transferable on sale. Needless to say I'm mesmerized at this point because the thought of not ever having to worry about something is a sure sell to a millennial. I'm also used to warranties from places like Lowe's where I've seen someone return an algae donned drill and get a replacement. After about 40 minutes demonstration we come to the sale, how much would you pay for a system that will stay leaf free and clean much later than the last shinning star has collapsed in on itself? A gutter protection system that is guaranteed to protect your home from stray water after the last black hole has evaporated it's last hawking radiation? Salesman claims $5000, holy molly, I just bought a house, who's got that kind of money? It's ok though, because I happen to be buying at the absolute BEST time of the year! Is it fate, destiny? Either way, he takes off 15% to 4K-ish, still a lot, I thought it'd be around 1200 max. So he says there's another promo where they take another 15% for what they call a flex install, where they do it on their schedule and not mine. ends up a little less than 4k and I'm still not wanting to pay that. He asks me a few selly questions trying to get me to commit, then asks how much I would give now to have that system. I throw 2k thinking it's so low he'd go away. He seems visibly upset at this like he didn't just ask me what I would be willing to pay. He then tells me he could go as low as 3k if I give him 2k now, and he can finance the last 1k for 6 months no interest. I explain that I don't want hits on my credit because I plan on refinancing the house in less than a year to get a lower rate and was instructed by the finance guy not to go wild on credit cards. He scuffs at the notion as if 'two points' here or there are gonna ruin my credit. Under the charm spell I was brought into over the last hour it seems like a good deal to me so I agree, but as with things like that I had a backup, brought my roommate into the room last minute and explained everything, he laughs at the prices and says to sleep on it. Sales person becomes red in the face and says "I love it when someone who doesn't know what we are talking about comes in at the end and doesn't understand the value try to negotiate. " Wow, I think, that has to be the rudest salesman-e thing I've heard anyone says. But at this point I still believe the system is good, even if the practice is shady. So I tell him I want to sleep on it and he, comes my way again and drops it to 2k. I say, appreciated but I want to sleep on it. He says incredulously that I was willing to pay 2k earlier when we spoke but now that he's offering 2k I won't take it? I said I'm interested but need to think about it. He then claims that after many years and so many sales he has never gotten a call back from someone who wanted to think about it. It didn't occur to me at the time to ask why that was, and that was a huge red flag. Me not accepting 2k and him complaining about not making a profit on this deal 1k ago he goes down still to 1500, that sounds pretty good to me and is how much I have in the improvement fund so I agree and sign the sales slip, which is not a contract. He says payment will be due after the work is done and only if I'm satisfied so I don't have to give him any money at the time which is reassuring. He calls to schedule the install acting all pissed that he's not making money, and even mentions to the person on the other end it's a 'break-even' install or something, at which the other person presumably snickered and added another checkmark to the sucker column. And then he tells me they'll be out to install tomorrow. Tomorrow? I thought the flex discount meant it was gonna be a few days, or even weeks. Now after he leaves I get some moments of reflection, like why would they make any sale in which they are not making money? How if 3k was the last time he was making a commission was he able to go down all the way to 1500? I go online to BBB to see what's on there, and low and behold, complaints. The business isn't even A+ it's B+. One of the complaint mentions that the clog guaranty only applies to the inside of the gutter and not on top of the leaffilter, which is what would get clogged now. Another complaint mentions that they had the screen damaged and LeafFilter wanted $95 to go out and fix it. So that's 3 lies so far. I kept looking online on here and youtube and found that these guys are basically scammers. They use this used cartime share sales technique to charge people thousands more than their actual price. Then use sub contractors to install with little to no quality control. And if you do have a claim they will not actually fix it for free, if at all. More so, the 11 degree pitch they boasted less self cleans than creates a shelf for debris to cake on. And once that happens, you just have overrun anyway. Seems like some people do have a good experience with it but if they just marketed their products like normal companies and not pressure to buy now and install tomorrow before you have a chance to think about it and cancel, I might have actually bought it. But since they are doing that I imagine the few people they get to do it is well worth the cost for them. After reviewing all that information and realizing I was just duped into a sale time share style I called up the main number(1-800-749-4566) from the folder he left and cancelled the install. If you signed and are reading this before the install, I urge you to do the same. The fact is, most people won't even need a gutter guard. In my case I will end up paying $100 to someone to realign the gutters and $100-200 for someone to clean them, maybe once a you're unable to call have a friend do it for you, don't pay thousands of dollars for being shy. What's insidious about it is that I am a person that usually vets things like that pretty thoroughly before purchasing, but I usually go to the source to see what they offer and then go from there. The customer funnel they have set up is all about getting things done from here to tomorrow to keep you from thinking about it too much. I thought I was gonna be able to talk to the person and then go vet it out before having to commit, nope. If you research, you won't buy. That's why no one called him back after sleeping on it. I hit legend today with an Embiggen Druid deck, and I thought I’d give you guys a guide in case you wanted to try it yourself. If nothing else, check out my win rate versus Priest- this deck absolutely eats Rez Priest. Overall Strategy Embiggen Druid is a midrange deck that seeks to cheat out giant minions with Embiggen and Strength in Numbers, then win the board with rush and divine shield minions like Oasis Surger, Zilliax and Evasive Wyrm, before bringing out tons of Beefy value taunts like Winged Guardian and Emerald Explorer to close the game out. It does really well against Priest and Rogue, two classes that dominate the meta, so it’s a good ladder climbing deck right now. Your win rate is much higher with it. Strength in Numbers: Another amazing card. Presents a huge tempo swing turns 4-6, when you complete it. This is usually when you take control of the board and start swinging face. Very important card. Breath of Dreams: Great card, card draw and ramp in one. One note: Don’t keep a dragon activator if you’re mulliganing with this. This deck runs so many dragons, you will find another activator. The only time I would keep this and a dragon would be if you also have Embiggen in your opening hand. Leeroy: My personal MVP. I put him in after a really frustrating game against a Holy Wrath Paladin, where I just couldn’t get there. Simply put, he’s burst, and lots of opponents can’t deal with the 6-10 damage he’ll provide. I’d often package him with swipe for a 10-12 damage close out, especially against priest, they rarely expect it. Must include. Archmage Vargoth: The archmage may seem like a weird include in a minion deck, but he does work. The two Ferocious Howls mean when you need some armor fast, he can double up on your armor and your card draw. The dream is to have a Winged Guardian die and then play him and Witching Hour, for two brand new Winged Guardians. A lot of times, it exhausts the opponent's resources. Swipe is another great target for the archmage, as it essentially becomes a targeted 5 damage spell with Consecrate. And I have even used him with Embiggen, to double up my initial Embiggen to get bigger stuff faster. All in all, a solid card for the deck. Ferocious Howl: This card was the one I didn’t see a lot in other druid lists, so I want to explain it. Early on I had Crystal Merchant as well, and the idea for both is you want to cycle as much as possible, to find those Embiggens, because they are so important to winning the mirror, which dominated much of my climb. I ended up taking the Merchants out (for a second Evasive Wyrm and an Injured Tol’vir) but the idea for Ferocious Howl is still the same- it’s cycling, it’s card draw and it’s life gain. Add the synergy with Archmage Vargoth and I think it’s a solid addition. Edit: Ignore this part, Rising Winds is better than Ferocious Howl. Witching Hour: It’s a free Winged Guardian for 3 mana. Didn’t include 2 because it’s strictly a late game card and two in your opening hand feelsbadman. I njured Tol’vir: I played much better against Hunter after I put him in. This deck struggles a little against fast, aggressive decks (Face Hunter, Galakrond Zoo) and Tol’vir- with or without added stats- does well to slow them down and contest the early board. If you’re running into a lot of zoo/hunter, I might take out the Witching Hour to put in a second Tol’vir. Strictly a meta decision. Cards I Didn’t Use: The beast package (Witchwood Grizzly, Predatory Instincts, sometimes a singleton Amani War Bear or Oondasta). This felt too slow for me, and while it’s great to get even bigger health taunts, what you’re sacrificing it for (Embiggen, Oasis Surger) feels worse. You are less able to contest boards early and sometimes, as crazy as it sounds, it doesn’t matter that you have a 3/24. Crystal Merchant: Had this in my deck early in my run for card draw, but I think Injured Tol’vir is better in most cases. A 2/3 with taunt trades way better than a 1/4, especially against Warlock and Hunter. And the Tol’vir is better with Embiggen, making him a better late game play as well. Wild Growth: Don’t need with Breath of Dreams. Frizz Kindleroost provides kind of the same thing but better(because we run 9 dragons), with a 5/4 body. Win Rates and Class Matchups Overall I went 52-32 with this deck, for a 62% win rate. Druid 18-11 Played against Treant Druid 5 times. The rest were Embiggen Druid. Treant Druid is like Galakrond Zoolock, keep their minions off the board. Win the board to win the game. Sometimes you have to race, but usually you win by keeping their board small and hitting face once you are two turns from lethal. The mirror match is all about that Embiggen. Whoever gets one has a large advantage. Your stuff will be bigger and the opponent will fall further and further behind. Be careful though, two is sometimes a detriment, as there is an awkward 2-3 turns where you don’t have much to play before your big stuff comes online. Embiggen, Breath and the quest are the essential cards in the mirror. Whoever draws more of them will probably win. Rogue 12-6 This deck is favored against rogue. There are two main flavors of rogue right now, Galakrond Rogue and Highlander Rogue. You can treat them both the same. Both really want a lackey on board on turn five to turn into a big turn 6 Heistbaron into Wand play. Rogue has two problems with this deck: it doesn’t contest the board in the first couple turns, when we are getting online, and it has trouble breaking through those giant taunts by turn 6-7. Always pressure Rogue, win the board, clear their lackeys and then even when they lackey + Heistbaron or Galakrond on 7, they will be so far behind on tempo and life it shouldn’t matter. Priest 8-2 This deck is 8-1 against Rez Priest, and 0-1 against Combo Priest (I love the guy who played Combo Priest, even though I lost that game, I added him after just to say, thank you for not playing Rez Priest). So all of the Rez Priest games go much the same. Play Embiggen, Strength and Breath if you can. Put out minions as you can. By turn 4-5, start attacking his face. The key to this matchup is Oasis Surger. On turn 5-6, he will put out a Convincing Infiltrator. Every time, just expect it. Put out your double Oasis Surger, then attack it. Even without Embiggen, they will take it out on their own, and they give two more targets for the deathrattle. Hit him with the other minions you have. Keep playing big stuff. The issue for priests is that often they can’t deal with something like ten damage a turn before turn 9, which is their big clean-up turn. Keep hitting his face, then close out with Leeroy and/or Swipe for the win. Hunter 5-5 I faced 3 Quest, 1 Highlander and 6 Face Hunters. Hunter is a tough matchup. Quest is actually better than Face Hunter. Always hold Swipe, Faerie Dragon and Injured Tol’vir against Hunter. Swipe absolutely decimates Quest Hunter. Watch out for the Scavenging Hyena + Swarm of Locusts play, Quest Hunter loves it. For Face Hunter, get out your taunts quickly, and don’t be too precious about value. Remember too, you need to race Face Hunter. Don’t worry about clearing everything on their board, they will draw enough to kill you. Make them worry about you killing them first. An even matchup. Mage 4-1 All Dragon Highlander Mages. It’s a fun deck, but it’s kind of unfocused, and it wants to win around turns 8-11. Usually we can get there faster. It also doesn’t have a lot of good ways of dealing with our large minions, especially because so many of them are untargetable. Play your normal game and you’ll probably win. Favored. Warlock 1-3 All Galakrond Zoo. We have a tough time dealing with their early boards and a Grim Rally at the wrong moment means we really can’t do much. As much as you can, contest the board early. Winning this matchup is entirely board dependent, like Treant Druid. Often I’d put a 6/8 into a 3/3, just to make sure they didn’t have a lot of Grim Rally/Invocation targets. If I saw this deck more, I’d probably put a second Injured Tol’vir in. Unfavored. Shaman 2-1 All Battlecry Quest Shaman (weirdly, right? ). They don’t do much early as they are completing their quest and all their 1/1 lackeys mean great swipe targets. In general, we get under them, they want to go off turn 8-10 with big Galakrond and Lifedrinker turns and by that time we are hitting face for 15-20. Paladin 1-2 All Holy Wrath Paladin.
